Merete Lassen graduated from College of Fine Arts in Sydney, Australia in 2006 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting. She was born in Langesund, Norway, but lives and works in Gothenburg, Sweden.

No stories are the same, part 1

In the series No stories are the same, we become entangled in Meretes' world of colorful buildings. They seem to be inviting us in although doors and windows are missing. A dark shadow spills out beneath someones blue, crooked house in No stories are the same, part 1. At the bottom of the painting we seem to have been cornered, and I feel like turning around, ready to explore another room. Because that's what these paintings do; they encourage us to find out what's going on. I'm not sure though if we ever will.

In No stories are the same, part 2 a green house grows out of a blue buildings' grey roof top. While in No Stories are the same, part 3 my eyes are drawn towards the red building in the distance. I feel like entering this world, and become part of it. I want to move into one of these houses, but first of all, just peek in through one of the windows that might or might not appear on the other side, because I suspect that someone else is already at home.
